Rush Injury Law has served injured clients throughout Northern California since 2005. The firm primarily handles auto accidents, premises liability, and animal bite cases. Founder James Rush has recovered millions for injured clients, securing settlements and jury verdicts that rank among California’s top recoveries each year.
Despite their track record of success, operationally Rush Injury Law faced the challenge of managing constantly changing case information in what they described as static CMS systems. As case information evolved, staff spent significant time manually reviewing files to rebuild summaries and timelines, often working from incomplete or outdated details.
Reliance on manual file review also hindered Rush Injury Law’s negotiations with adjusters. Without a fast way to surface key facts during negotiations, adjuster calls were frequently postponed, resulting in delayed settlements.
Rush recognized that his law firm needed to evolve to better serve its customers and keep pace with competitors. Believing that proactive AI technology was the key, Rush Injury Law partnered with EvenUp to gain real-time insight into their case inventory and multiply staff output without hiring.
Before EvenUp, staff manually cross-checked medical providers against case files to confirm that all bills and records had been requested and received. As treatment progressed and new information arrived, staff had to repeatedly revisit files to update record status. Without constant monitoring, they risked missing an important record or bill.
Now, Rush Injury Law uses EvenUp to maintain a real-time source of truth for every case. With the Missing Docs Check, staff can instantly identify which records are still outstanding, eliminating the need for manual cross-checking.
The firm also uses Companion™, EvenUp’s legal AI assistant, to identify critical gaps or inconsistencies in the case files and suggest follow-up questions to clarify incident details earlier in the case lifecycle. For example, Companion™ once identified discrepancies in a case’s files regarding how the client was injured. It then recommended that staff ask the client to describe in detail how they fell, with follow-up questions to create a clear incident record.
Rush Injury Law also uses Companion™ to quickly surface information about a client’s prior injuries, ER visits, relevant workers’ comp records, and more. Because Companion™ answers questions using the most up-to-date case files and cites responses down to the line level, staff can quickly verify case details without rereading records. This instant access to information gives them back hours for other tasks.
EvenUp’s Demands products enable Rush Injury Law to send comprehensive, high-quality demands that encourage insurers to settle quickly while simultaneously reducing the time to prepare them.
Express Demands™, EvenUp’s AI-generated demands, takes 80% of the preparation off staff’s plates. This allows them to send demands twice as fast and handle a higher volume of cases. Rush Injury Law primarily uses Express Demands™ for cases where losses clearly exceed policy limits or when the statute of limitations is approaching quickly. In these cases, speed is the priority, and being able to create an Express Demand™ in less than an hour helps the firm remove drafting bottlenecks.
Although Express Demands™ are delivered as complete drafts, they are still fully customizable. Staff can make edits directly in EvenUp’s Workstation, an AI-supported word editor built specifically for personal injury documents.
Within Workstation, staff can apply one-click AI edits to adjust tone and brevity, or use Companion™ to rewrite sections of the draft using custom prompts. For example, Rush Injury Law uses these tools to strengthen pain-and-suffering language and simplify demand sections to an 8th-grade reading level in seconds.
For more complex cases, Rush Injury Law uses Expert Demands™, which combine AI drafting with human legal review. The detailed breakdown of damages, including loss of household services and per diem pain-and-suffering calculations, allows the firm to clearly demonstrate the full extent of its clients’ losses. Rush particularly likes the supporting verdict analysis, as it strengthens the settlement request by showing the case’s potential value if it goes to trial.
When you have a demand that is this thorough, the insurance company knows you are ready for trial. It increases the threat of a large verdict, which is what actually moves the needle on settlements.

Overall, partnering with EvenUp has taken the day-to-day grind of preparing demands away from the staff at Rush Injury Law.
EvenUp has allowed us to increase our caseload without compromising quality. We've been able to shift responsibilities within the firm because the amount of work necessary to get a demand out has reduced by 70-80%.

Reliance on manual file review also limited Rush Injury Law’s ability to respond quickly during negotiations with adjusters.
Adjusters often call weeks after a demand is sent, by which time key details may have been forgotten.
Before EvenUp, calls with adjusters were often postponed so the team could refresh their memory. Staff would spend about 30 minutes rereading the demand and manually reviewing records. Phone tag between the two parties would ensue, and sometimes the call wouldn’t occur until weeks after the initial contact.
These delays slowed case resolution and postponed when clients received their settlements.
Now, Rush Injury Law uses Companion™ to access key case details in real time during adjuster calls, eliminating the need to reschedule conversations.
Companion™ also strengthens the quality of negotiations. If the firm knows an adjuster is planning to call, team members will ask Companion™ to surface arguments adjusters may use to downplay injury severity and identify supporting responses from the record.
Sometimes the firm has to respond on the spot to attempts to minimize clients’ injuries. For example, when an adjuster claimed a client never reported shoulder pain at the ER, Rush used Companion™ to locate the exact cited lines in the ER record confirming the complaint within seconds.
With instant access to cited case details, Rush Injury Law can respond to adjusters without rereading records.
I want to be able to speak intelligently about my client's case and the details of their claim in that negotiation. Now, I'm armed with all that information on that phone call and understand exactly how to negotiate best for my client.

A key element of Rush Injury Law’s success with EvenUp has been their willingness to rethink their processes, break inefficient habits, and adopt a more technology-first approach to their work.
This shift required an investment of time and resources to ensure the entire team was properly trained and aligned on where the firm was headed and why changes were needed.
Rush emphasized that adoption depended on selecting tools that delivered immediate value within existing workflows.
He credits EvenUp’s intuitive design as key to firmwide adoption. Staff required minimal training, making it possible to begin using the platform immediately.
When evaluating technology, I look at three things: Ease of use, intuitive interface, and a reasonable price. I know there are a lot of choices out there, but EvenUp is an industry leader. I would recommend EvenUp to other personal injury attorneys.
James Rush
Rush Injury Law sees EvenUp as a platform that they can grow with. They credit EvenUp’s never-ending quest to get better and the frequent product updates as key to its leadership among other vendors.
Plus, EvenUp’s customer service really sets the company apart from others. As someone who describes himself as not particularly tech-savvy, having a support team that responds quickly to questions is key for Rush.
I've never had a problem getting EvenUp to respond to a concern, make time for me, explain something, or try to fashion a resolution that may be a little bit outside the box. And that's just as important as all the bells and whistles.
